  • Global Airlines hints at A340 move as A380 remains tied up

    December 04, 2025 1 min read

Global Airlines has fuelled fresh speculation after CEO James Asquith posted a new video showing Hi Fly’s A340-300, 9H-SUN, sitting on the apron in full view. In the clip, he said the team has been “working hard on the development of our fleet” and hinted at working with an operator “who can fly more” — a clear nod towards Hi Fly.

The shift makes sense. With Global’s A380 still facing maintenance and certification delays, the airline needs a more flexible aircraft to keep momentum going. The A340 offers exactly that: long range, smaller capacity, and immediate availability through Hi Fly. It’s a practical interim step while the A380 remains grounded.

Whether this turns into a formal partnership is still unconfirmed, but the appearance of 9H-SUN is the strongest sign yet that Global may turn to the A340 to support its early expansion.
