  • AIR INDIA BLACK-BOX DELAY: SIX MONTHS AND STILL NO ANSWER

    December 09, 2025 1 min read

It’s now six months since the Air India crash in Ahmedabad, yet investigators from India and the U.S. have only just begun a joint review of the black-box data in Washington.
The delay stems from disagreements over access and custody of the recorders — unusual for a major commercial accident. At one point, the NTSB reportedly warned it might step back unless its experts were allowed to observe the analysis.
Most investigations release early data within days. Here, half a year has passed with no verified findings. Leaked details suggest the fuel-control switches moved to CUTOFF seconds after take-off, but this has not been officially confirmed.
    Key questions remain:
    • Why did it take six months to reach a joint playback?
    • What held up cooperation between agencies?
    • Does this delay affect confidence in the investigation?
Families — and the industry — still have no clear timeline for answers.
